Colin Prescott

It is with great sadness that we report that past player Colin Prescott passed away last week after a long illness.

Colin was an Cardiff HSOB who after captaining Welsh Youth, had gone on to play with distinction at Penarth, Cardiff and Newport - before returning to CHSOB in the late 60's and becoming an integral part of the club during the next decade or so. A club captain in two stints - Colin also performed the role of Chairman of CHSOB.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go to Colins family and friends inc. wife Veronica and his brother Gwyn.

.............................................

The following is some thoughts and notables of Colin's time with us at CHSOB RFC from current President Richard Pexton:

Colin was an excellent rugby player who had captained Welsh Youth, skippered Penarth, as well as playing for Cardiff and the then Welsh Champions Newport in 1969.

Colin rejoined Cardiff HSOB RFC in 1969-70 season, along with Tony Pender and Gerry Morgan from Cardiff, and ex- Glamorgan Wanderer Fred Gibson made his debut in 1969-70 too.

As the 1969-70 season progressed, the playing strength improved, and club spirit -much influenced by pack leader Colin Prescott, was also vastly increased!.

The club celebrated its new-found confidence with a first trip abroad to represent Wales in a four-sided international in Versailles, where we somewhat surprised Racing Club de Versailles by 16 points to 11 in the First Round and then Winchester by 6 points to 3 in the final.

There was only one unanimous nomination for Club Captain for 1971-72 season - Colin Prescott

Colin became Chairman of the club for 1975/76 Season and still turned out for the First XV.

Colin was appointed Club Captain again for 1977/78 season, playing in all 36 games (winning 27).

The 1st XV scoreed 713 points in the season and conceded 393 losing their last match on 14 Jan 1978 and then remaining undefeated winning 15 games consecutively. The Best Such Run for 20 years!

Colin was awarded with THe City Motors Cup for the Player of the Year!.

Colin was a Man's Man, Dependable, Hard Working, Fearless, and above all, a wonderful Friend & brother. We shall all miss him!
